Your first week in a German workplace, sequenced

Office colleagues in discussion

Residence approval feels like the finish line until Monday morning arrives with badge printers, missing tax IDs, and a calendar full of names you cannot yet place. Module 5 of the Logicquerygrid Intensive treats week one as its own project with a start order.

A sequence that usually holds

Day one is for access and orientation — not for proving brilliance. Confirm IT login paths, desk or remote norms, and who owns payroll questions. Day two is a good moment for the manager 1:1 we rehearse: ask how feedback appears during probation, and what “good” looks like at day thirty.

Midweek, notice the quiet culture signals: lunch length, how Slack stays silent overnight, whether meetings start precisely. None of these are laws; all of them shape how colleagues read you. End of week is for documenting open administrative items so they do not vanish into weekend fog.

Works council awareness

Depending on company size, a works council introduction may appear on your schedule. We brief candidates on why that meeting exists without turning the session into labor-law school. The goal is composure, not expertise.

If your Anmeldung or insurance confirmation is still pending, tell HR early in the week with a concrete status — not a vague apology. Employment consultations exist partly to give you language for that update.
